I just hope that everyone—the media, our politicians, and we as citizens—takes this tragedy as a sign of a bigger problem and actually does something to tone done the rhetoric and start taking more responsibility for our polarized country.

I had known that Miss McCain was going to put up a story about this, but it didn't click that it would be extra personal because it was in Arizona.
I think she is mirroring what the more sane of the commentators on the subject have said: Whether the shooting took place because of the tone of our national debate or not, maybe we need to dial it back a notch.
